Help Us Raise $10,000 by December 31

Our fall projects are equipping residents to design their own spaces

A Permanent Home for
Flatbush Mixtape’s Tool Library

Design-Build | Flatbush, Brooklyn

In Flatbush, Brooklyn, something incredible is happening.

Every month, residents gather on the sidewalk with our partners at Flatbush Mixtape to build, to share, and to dream.

There’s sawdust in the air and barbecue on the grill. Kids are helping parents measure wood beams. Someone’s using a drill for the first time. We call it Flatbush Grillage. Together, we create modular furniture toolkits that anyone can build to transform the space they call home.

Now, we’re taking it one step further:

We’re transforming the Lefferts Historic House basement into the Flatbush Mixtape Community Makerspace — a permanent home for the Flatbush Grillage Furniture Toolkits and the Flatbush Mixtape Tool Library for making, repairing, and community-powered creation.

This isn’t just about furniture.

It’s about agency.

It’s about neighbors becoming makers — and making their neighborhoods stronger in return.

Co-Creating Storage for the Rock Band’s Drum Kit

Design-Build | Downtown, Los Angeles

Each week, for the 20 weeks (yes, you heard that right we’re doubling the length of this year’s program!) 18 high school students will gather at Inner-City Arts to design and build something real: a storage system for the Inner-City Arts Rock Band—crafted to keep their drums safe on the road.

The students aren’t just learning to design; they’re learning to listen.

They’re asking how to make it fit each drum perfectly in its case, stack easily into an SUV, and be easily carried up and down stairs.

By doubling the length of the program, participants will have more time for power tools, collaboration, and construction.

This isn’t just about keeping the drums in-tact.

It’s about about young people discovering that they can shape the spaces they live, learn, and play in.

Thanks to your support, they’re building skills, confidence, and community—one design at a time.
