Architecture Workshops

We are closing the knowledge gap between residents and architects by equipping k-12 students and their families to advocate and design for themselves

Designing Spaces that Thrive

The ability to transform your space into a nourishing environment is essential for living healthy lives.

For too long, unjust power structures have kept this power away from marginalized communities. As a result, many neighborhoods are left without communal gatherings space, access to healthy food, and the necessary resources to thrive.

Architecture + Advocacy hosted its first Architecture Workshop in 2021 with LA Commons, a community-centered arts organization in South LA. We have since expanded our curriculums to address topics like sustainability and mental-wellness and to help residents translate their ideas into real-world construction projects.

Today, we are still the only organization in Los Angeles dedicated to teaching architecture as outreach. Whether or not participants go on to pursue careers in architecture, they leave our workshops as empowered, imaginative designers with agency to create change in their neighborhoods.

“The simple act of drawing the floor plan of their bedroom inspires participants to think about their physical space, the inequalities that exist there, and how to improve it for themselves”
